Volunteer Opportunities

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN for our upcoming 2027 academy.

Fill out an application and you will be contacted with the next steps.

Who? You! We are looking for motivated individuals who are 18+ years of age.

Why? Becoming a part of our department welcomes you into a group of people committed to supporting each other and members of this wonderful community we call home. Volunteering helps to keep your friends and neighbors safe, and you'll learn a special set of skills to use and how to be there in their time of need.

What? Firefighters are trained to respond to all sorts of hazards. Recruits will become First Aid and CPR certified, IFSAC Firefighter 1 and Wildland Firefighter certified.

Learn more about IFSAC certifications here: https://wsp.wa.gov/fire-service-certification/

Learn more about Wildland training here: https://www.nwcg.gov/nwcg-training

How? The process starts with filling out an application. You will be contacted with times to schedule an interview, physical agility test and a fitting for gear. A background check is also conducted and based on results, an invitation to join is offered.

A physical exam, paid for by the Department will be conducted to determine fitness, cardiac, and respiratory health before the start of the training.

Academy Timeline:

Applications for the 2027 Academy are due October 10, 2026 - we are also taking applications for those interested in Wildland only.

Onboarding takes place at the end of 2026 with 2 or 3 days of testing and prerequisites.

Class syllabus and materials will be provided in December as well as a First Aid and CPR class.

The 2027 training class is split into two sections:

  • Structural Firefighting Academy: Jan-April with IFSAC FF1 testing.
  • Wildland Firefighting Academy: April

Training days will be Saturdays and Sundays between 8:00AM and 5:00PM
